Blood Pressure Chart
A Blood pressure chart is a graphical representation for people to understand the significance of their blood pressure on their bodies. Mapped as a straight line between the systolic and the diastolic numbers, this chart allows individuals to see the range in which they are categorized based on their blood pressure readings. Most frequently normal blood pressure is said to be 120/80 mmHg with 120 indicating the Systolic number and 80 indicating the diastolic number. However, since so many factors such as emotional stress, exertion, caffeine, can effect the reading, readings are frequently taken several times, sometimes within minutes of each other to get a more accurate picture of where an individuals BP truly falls on the chart which is expressed in ranges of Normal, Mild, Moderate, and Severe Stage 1 and stage 2. Please note that the classification for diastolic numbers have changed from the old format to new format. In the old format for classification, the diastolic numbers were classified in 3 stages – Mild (Diastolic Number is between 90 and 105), Moderate ( Diastolic Number is between 105 and 115) and Severe (Diastolic number is between 115 and 140).
Now classified in four stages of Systolic and Diastolic Blood Pressure numbers, these four stages are as follows:
Mild Stage 1 – The blood pressure of individuals in this stage is 140 – 160 in the systolic and 90-100 mmHg in the diastolic range. People falling in this category are known to be in pre-hypertension.
Moderate Stage 2 – Ranging from 160-180 in the systolic numbers and 100-110 in the diastolic range, individuals in this stage require immediate treatment. This stage also corresponds to Moderate Stage 2 in the diastolic range. Severe Stage 3 – Ranging from 180-210 in the systolic numbers and 110-120 in the diastolic number, individuals in this stage require immediate attention from healthcare professionals. If an individual is not treated at this stage of high blood pressure the consequences of it can be severe or even fatal. Should you be someone taking their own BP and are getting these type of reading please do not ignore them. Severe Stage 4 – The blood pressure of individuals in this stage ranges above 210 in the systolic numbers and above 130 in the diastolic numbers. Individuals in this stage would need to undergo immediate intensive treatment for high blood pressure to avoid fatal consequences. Blood pressure charts also provide individuals with information on diet control and various food items one needs to consider eating in each of these stages. The chart also informs individuals of various food items individuals are prohibited from eating when in any one of these stages. Since these Blood Pressure charts also provide Blood Pressure Lowering Tactics to the individuals as well, they round off as an excellent source of information that is readily available.
